What a load of rubbish as we cruise to Rushden
Denford to Rushden and Diamonds, River Nene, 6 miles 4 locks
We were sorry to leave our lovely mooring this morning…

So quiet here and lots of areas to walk across, but hey look at that gorgeous sky!
And hardly any breeze today to go with it.
As soon as we set off, and looking back, a boat appeared from the bridge behind making the four locks today much easier with two crews.. Woodford..

Some lovely moorings here, but all private, yet another village which has turned it’s back on the revenue of the river.. the ‘official’ visitor moorings are by the church…

But as you can see they are not ideal. The pic shows the best bit to try, but it would mean a long plank due to the shallow edge.. pity, ‘tis a lovely village which has a Post Office, shop and pub among other little shops.. Maybe one day they might realise the potential of the river tourists to their village..
One of the biggest problems along this part of the river is refuse and trying to dispose of it. There are no Environment Agency rubbish disposal bins between Peterborough and Northampton, that is 57 miles and 37 locks between being able to officially dump rubbish.
The disposal point where we are now has been closed by the Rushden and Diamonds Football Club as they are not prepared to fund that any more, and EA have said that they won’t either as it was put in by the Club for the use of boaters…
So something needs to be done.. Putting rubbish into village litter bins is not allowed, if caught it can be a £250 fine…
Longer cruise day tomorrow as we make for close to Cogenhoe some 10 miles upstream.. Hope the skies are as good as today..
