The delight of Tryley on the Shroppie

Tyrley to Market Drayton, Shropshire Union Canal, 1.75 miles 5 locks

I still haven’t received my British Waterways Licence Disc yet although I renewed and paid for it before Christmas.  I decided that I had better write to BW asking them where it was.  No Problem is registered you see, I checked it out in the online boat licence checker.  In went 508087 and out came “This boat is licensed. The owner might have forgotten to display it.”

I had an email back saying that my licence was processed on 6th February and that I should have the discs by now.  I thought 6th February is a long long time from when I sent off, I suppose that would be a massive 50 days to process.  There must be a reason for the lengthy delay.. is there really a huge shortage of staff at BW I wonder.

I have my gold licence from last year displayed at the moment, but I am getting some long looks from passing boats crews who are looking doubtingly at me.   I really don’t want to put one of those stickers I often see in other boats saying “New Licence applied for”…. Ho Hum, I shall wait.  The lady at BW has asked me to confirm my address and she says she will get me duplicate discs out to me.

You know the Shropshire Union Canal is a delight.. it is so diverse in it’s passage through the countryside.. today was no exception as we passed through the lovely set of locks at Tyrley..

The last three locks out of the five are through a cutting of solid stone..

A lovely day today too so very calm as we dropped down the locks, look how dry the towpaths are.. we haven’t had much rain lately and it is a real pleasure to come back from walking without having to dry 10 feet.. two dogs and me!

It never fails to amaze me that as we travel north so we drop down the canal system.. it does seem weird travelling north going downhill!

A pint and a pie in the town of Market Drayton today.. very nice too.  Then a trip to Morrisons to nab some delicious meat and potato pies.  They did stop doing them at one time, but I wrote to them to complain as I adore them, so they started doing them again.. teehee.. can I call that my claim to fame?!!

Anyway two went in the freezer for next week and two went on the plates tonight for tea.. Yum..
