Rain is No Problem along the Market Harborough Arm

Moored Market Harborough Arm, Grand Union Canal

Not a bad weekend weather wise during the day, but Saturday night was very blowy and last night we got quite a battering.  We are moored out in the open a bit I must admit.. but it was OK, and No Problem is watertight!  For sure that was well tested on our starboard side during the night!

This is certainly the right place to be in this weather, the towpaths are made up, and as you can see, although it was raining this morning quite heavily neither me nor Lucy or Meg were getting muddy..

It’s like this all along the towpath for many miles.. the fields are not too bad either, the edges have been left by the farmers, so although the paths might point across the freshly ploughed field, it is easy to go round along the grassy walks.. at least Lucy and Meg get longer walks!

We are certainly now in winter mode, just one or two hire boats passing having come from their base at the end of the arm in Market Harborough, and one or two boats that are just doing much as we are and moving a bit now and again.. One boat we passed the other day did the same to us today.. no doubt when we move next we well leapfrog them..

The canal has a very muddy look about it today.. there has been an awful lot of rain and it is full.  At least we’re not on the river.  We have had a lot of luck this year, seemingly being in the right place at the right time while our friends have had to cope with floods.

It’s not too far to walk back to the services at Foxton, and I am glad to report that there is a nice recycling area there by the new loo block…

It’s all looking quite smart at Foxton, although at this time of year not too many visitors during the week.. I popped into the little shop this morning.. fresh local new laid eggs and fresh bread went in the rucksack..

NB Seyella was at Blackhorse bridge waiting for Mr Tesco, and I joined them for a cuppa before returning to No Problem later in the morning.. they have moored up next to us now for a day or so.. Geoff is waiting for a delivery of coal from Smiths at Northampton..

The camera on the front has given up the ghost.. and although Mo of NB Balmaha tried to get it working it was proven to be a dead-un.. I phoned the chap and he wants me to try another one.. He thinks it might have got damp.. well it is suppose to be waterproof, remains to be seen whether a replacement will work.. watch this space.

Out walking this evening I discovered a large disused airfield.. well it’s not actually disused, it USED to be an airfield… must find out what that was..
