Pottering near Market Harborough
Moored Market Harborough Arm, Grand Union Canal
A quiet couple of days for us with just one or two boats passing us on the move. Actually there aren’t that many boats at all on this arm at the moment, although at the far end near the basin, the visitor moorings are all just about full. Presumably the moorings are being used as Winter Moorings by British Waterways, and occupied by boaters from the end of October ‘till March.. some boaters do hibernate you know!!
Today we moved on so that I could get a bus to take a trip into Market Harborough. But could I find a plug with a chain on it… nope I could not! Our plug you see, has lost it’s chain, and it is a right pain trying to get it out the plug ‘ole after washing up!.. I shall have to see if I can find one online..
Back to No Problem this afternoon I took Lucy and Meg for a wander along the towpath to the post box at Foxton.. would you believe I forgot to post the letters when I was out this morning.. on the way back the light was beginning to fade, and from the bridge at Foxton looking up the Harborough Arm the whole area looked a beautiful colour..

I was pleased the camera managed to capture that magical light.
Just beyond the narrowboats on the right is where the yard of Foxton Boat Services used to be. There is nothing to be seen there now. The boats have all gone, and the last time I saw them they were doubled up on the visitor moorings on the main line of the canal just to the north of the junction. Some of the hire boats have gone to Wilton to be sold, and some are still here along with their working boats.
There is only speculation as to what will happen to the site, maybe a car park, but doubt that, it’s too big an area. Maybe British Waterways will develop it in some way. They took over the pub here not long ago and that is going well for them..

Children in Need is occupying BBC1 tonight, I am amazed how generous the british public are even in these tight times.. But the money they get always goes to such good causes… Donation made today in town while I was there today, but hey I wouldn’t have minded winning one of the auctions on Radio One at the beginning of the week. 40 minutes in the company of Mark Knopfler learning a bit about playing a guitar.. Wow! But that went for £100,000!!
