Bye Kintbury, hello Newbury...

Kintbury to Newbury, Kennet and Avon Canal, 4.5 miles 6 locks

We didn’t mean to do all that much today, but it happened.  The day started with a wash down of Tara who looked more like a desert rat than a posh narrowboat.. where has all this dust come from.  I noticed Lucy jumping onto the boat today in a cloud of dust from out of her coat too.. she will roll in all the dust on the towpath.. …. Ah but she enjoys getting all dusty and then to clean off she dives into the canal… end result?  A muddy, dusty, dirty ‘ol dog!.. Gawd, if I didn’t have her I would have half the housework that I need to do…. Ah but she is worth my double time!

We had hoped to moor at Hamstead Lock so the family could visit, but there was nowhere at all to park their car.. tis a thin road with twists near the canal and a thin canal bridge.. I should have remembered on the way down.. but we picked up a Tesco order from there this evening from a very cheery chap, then continued on towards Newbury.  We were amazed at these two earlier in the day, it was about lunch time, I think they were checking out any leftover sandwich lunches?…

Locking through the rest today was pleasant enough.. tough though with just the two of us…

So we settled tonight at West Mills on the private moorings by the swing bridge.. I didnt know it was private until an irate woman knocked the boat and went a bit overboard with her repremand of me..

OK,OK, so we will move in the morning..
