Relaxing on our first day on the River Nene

Moored close Weston Favell Lock, River Nene

Another glorious day today, lovely and warm.

A ‘girlies lunch’ was on the cards, so said goodbye to Chas and Vic and accompanied by Ann and the two dogs, wandered down the Nene Way in the direction of Billing Aquadrome.  We walked round the large lake there to take a look at the visitor moorings.  I didn’t take No Problem into the Aquadrome on our last visit to the Nene, for the simple reason that I missed the entrance both on the way up and on the way down.. Well the ‘visitor moorings’ look typical of the wonderful items, like bits of rotten ply, that make up many of the moorings along the river…

We will have a go at mooring here on Sunday so we can go visit the pub on the other side of the river for their carvery.. should just about get half of NP alongside here!

We all sat out on the pontoon moorings this afternoon, hey the first day of the year that the chairs came out.. will have to get the sun brolly soon!.. the Nene is just as beautiful as I remember.  It is amazing, it’s so different from the canals, close to nature and plenty of wildlife to be seen..

…and as we strolled today, we heard our first cuckoo of the year just across the river.

Just the one boat passed today, but late this evening we were joined by another narrowboat on the moorings here.  They had left at 6am this morning from Braunston.. now that is a long way to travel in a day..

I have a cold.. spose I picked it up from somewhere ‘dan saff’.. I wish it would go away.  I am not feeling like doing too much walking at the moment, but I did venture out late this evening and got a nice pic of our moorings from the far bank of the river..
